Holding true to her promise, Kris had texted Skye about her next contest: that which fell conveniently on the Star Festival. While their initial interaction may have left her uncertain, she still found herself texting out a simple -- Hi Skye, it’s Kris! I’m going to be at the Star Festival contest if you’re around Liggs this next week-- once she was sure she was doing it.
Thereafter, they’d worked out a date and time when both would have some downtime, and now there she was flipping through her phone at the local Pokemon center waiting for Skye to show up. She’d already suggested they go to the observatory since it was holding an open night that night, but the festival booths were open and alive as well so… Any which way was good.
Standing next to Kris was a Wynaut, his ear-hand wrapped around her ankle to keep from being separated in that moment. He wasn’t too sure about all of these people and going ons, so he’d just stick close to Kris for now. She hoped somewhere in the back of his mind, he’d start to enjoy himself of his own accord.

Skye was caught unawares by the sudden text he received from Kris, he was certain their meeting was a one time thing deapite the girl giving him her number. He hadn't texted her because he felt it wasn't his place especially how things were left off. He was very blunt and rude to her, telling her how she should do things with her life when he didn't know the whole story. But since then he had grown a bit, incidentally he ended up rooming with someone he'd just met but Skye was certain had it not been for Lucien's kindness he would've never realized how socially stunted he was and how rude he was coming across. He decided that he would keep his promise and go see her perform, competing in something as huge as the Star Fesitval was probably nerve wracking and liable for support. He brought only what he needed, leaving the rest at the ranch and hopped on the train for Liggs. It was an interesting city, it certainly dripped pride. Either from the architect or the people was anyones guess. Skye left the train station on skateboard and headed for the agreed location, the pokemon center. Today his newest catch, Auxiliadora the Spritzee was joining him for the adventure. The small bird like pokemon perched ontop of Skye's shoulder. Normally the spot was reserved for Artemis another pokemon of his but it would seem that both of his pokemon were in a bit of a rivalry. Hence why the other wasn't around. It wasn't long before he reached the pokemon center, there he could see Kris and a small blue blob of a pokemon on her ankle. Skye kick flipped of a bench that was in his way and skidded to a halt before the other. He stepped off the skayeboard with one foot and used the other to shift his weight on one of the ends to make the board come up to his reach and grabbed it with a free hand. "Hey Kris, nice seeing you again. Are you excited for the contest?" Words came to him much easier, even if his brain was buzzing. He was more curious about what would a festival contest look like. He was also curious about Liggs, aside from this event he hadn't been here yet. He wondered what kinds of things the city had to offer. And most of all he was happy that Kris was giving him another chance despite not deserving it. He would do better this timenaround. Kristina Vasiliev

Engrossed in her phone for the moment, Kris didn’t register the sounds of Skye’s skateboard or the reverberations of his thoughts until he was right up in close. Almost immediately after, however, her gaze flickered up to register him— only to grow thereafter as she saw the skateboard. Oooh. Huh. She’d seen what people could do on them but only ever in videos online and—
Are you excited for the contest? “Yeah!” broke passed Kris’s lips almost immediately. “It’s going to be my first full contest complete with a battle round!” Everything up to that point had been Showcases, smaller, miniature contests with fragmented parts. She had been surprised when Liggs had announced it intended to do a full full contest, but what might have birthed anxiety actually solidified resolve instead. This was a good chance to prove what she could do in more ways than one.
“They’re also splitting it so interestingly this contest, giving prizes for each part of the contest: the appeals round, performance round, battle round, and then an overall prize,” she continued on shifting down briefly to pick up the Wynaut as he tried to get her attention. “I’m going to enter every part, and it’s going to be great.”

Well Kris seemed to be very much excited for the Star Festival constest, as she began to explain it was her first full contest. He supposed that Veria probably didn't do full scale contests unless it was for a special event like this one. He would've thought she was would've been anxious about doing a full contest but she looked especially pumped for it. That was a good sign, she was very confident in her abilities then. Apparently they were awarding prizes for every individual aspect of the contest. That was nice, so if you blew it in one category you still had other chances of winning. Skye nodded as she declare she would participate in all the categories. "Sounds like a plan, have you figured out what you're going to do for the appeals and performance round?" As well as his memory served him, he recalled that there were like themes coordinators could do in tandem with pokemon selection and there was costumes. So many different components went into those two areas alone. He was sure that Kris would have no problem figuring something out. Skye watched the Wynaut trying to get his owner's attention and then was picked up. His own pokemon still rested on his shoulder, Auxliadora looked at Kris and her Wynaut with innocent curiousity. "I know you wanted to go to the observatory for the open mic night but it seems like there's other things open up to do. What do you wanna do first?" Kristina Vasiliev

A toothy grin flashed across Kris’s features as Skye asked about her appeals and performance round. “Yep— well, kinda. I have the appeal down,” she answered. “The performance round’s theme was a little different from what I was expecting but…” She took in a slow breath and smiled a little softer. “I’ve got ideas for that one too.” Stardom may not have been explicitly about her favorite heavenly bodies, but it certainly applied to her in very specific ways.
Once in Kris’s arms, the Wynaut started to settle again. He felt at least somewhat safer in her arms than at her feet, but Kris was tiny. The elevation didn’t really mean all that much eheheh. As he felt eyes on him, though, the Wynaut looked up at the Spritzee curiously, uncertainly. A weird smile came and went from his features as he settled again. <Nice to meet you?> Came the Poke-speak.
Kris, meanwhile, was focused more on Skye. Hmmmm. Was there anything else she wanted to do? There was so much to do, really, and that was the beauty of it but… narrowing it all down was difficult wasn’t it? Yellow eyes flickered around the area thoughtfully. “Uhm… I dunno… is there anything specifically that you wanna do?” She had been the one to list all of her interests and the like up to that point so… yeah.

It sounded like everything was under control, that was good. He couldn't wait to see the events unfold and watch Kris and other contestants perform. It had been such a long time since he sat through a contest, he was so small he'd usally fall asleep towards the end. Meanwhile Skye's Spritzee watched as the Wynaut made a face and greeted her, she cooed before ruffling her feathers. <Hello! Glad I'm not the only one being dragged along.> She spoke back to the Wynaut. Skye thought about what he wanted to do, he was very indesicive and he generally would do whatever other people felt like doing. He shook his head at the girl. "I don't really mind what we're doing. Hanging out with you is good enough for me. I mean there's so many things we could do here, anything could end up being fun you know?" Kristina Vasiliev

The Wynaut perked up as the Spritzee spoke back. <Same! I’m… I’m new to Kris’s team though so I guess this is…friendship stuffs> he answered swaying a bit uncertain of his own words. That certainly sounded like something reasonable after all.
Kris, meanwhile, blinked as Skye spoke. Hanging out with you is good enough for me… Color was threatening to climb her features, and her eyes averted almost immediately thereafter, scaling over the various shops and stalls in the distance instead. “I… uh… I guess we could walk around a bit first and make our way over to the observatory?” she asked looking back again only as her features started to cool again.

Spritzee nodded, it was nice to talk to another pokemon that wasn't any of Skye's. Spritzee rather liked her owner but someone his pokemon were mean and rude and just plain weird. <So am I! I was caught by some rude Rowlet but I sort of like this. I like the free food and this spot right here.> Skye tilted his head in confusion as Kris looked away from him. Then he looked at the conversating pokemon, was there something he missed? Looks like they were heading to observatory, Skye nodded as she started looking back at him once again. As far as he knew the Observatory was just beyond the stalls. He started heading that direction, walking slowly so that Kris could easily catch up to him. He knew about the open mic night they were having but he wondered if the Observatory had a good view of the stars? He'd been looking around for a good stargazing spot but either spaces were taken or they had bad star viewing reception. He supposed while they were there he'd check it out at least, perhaps that was something he could bring up to Kris later. "So, do you know how these open mics work? Incidentally this is my first one." Kristina Vasiliev

The Wynaut perked up a little at the Spritzee’s words. <I was caught from the wild too, but Kris asked if I wanted to battle and I lost then but…> He shrugged both ear-hands. It hadn’t turned out bad at all. Kris, meanwhile, had started to move as well, taking long steps to keep in time with Skye. He was almost a foot taller than her, but she was used to such things now. The world in general was just bigger than her, really. The question, however, had her eyes glancing sideways. “Kinda, it’s like…” she looked forward as they started to come to the various stalls. “You wait for whoever is going then to finish and then just go up, usually…” There were some organizations that had you sign in and wait due to sheer volume and size, but Kris hadn’t been in enough Verian contests to be sure what they would have. “Do you have an interest in performing?”

Skye looked at the stalls that littered the path to the observatory, each one had various troves of items to sell to Festival goers. Some selling food, selling trinkets, clothes, and those awful games that cheat you. He slowed down more so that the other didn't habe to make such huge strides to keep up with him. Auxliadora nodded as the wynaut spoke, it was a surprise that neither person acknowledged that both pokemon were conversing, whether they knew what was being said or not. <Indeed! Especially now that we're here. This place! It looks so fun with all the colors and lights. I wonder what this is for?> Skye looked at his pokemon and then Kris', whatever they were talking about must have been very interesting. Skye was still confused wait to go up for what exactly? Then Kris had asked if he planned on performing at all? Oh! So it was a performing event. Before even thinking about it he shook his head. "No, not really. I..." Am not performing? Don't like people watching me? Am scared of being judged? Skye could feel his stomach churing at the idea of it. Maybe if life hadn't gone the way it did for him, there might have been a chance for it. But now? No. It would never work out. "I-I'm already a spectacle enough as it is. I don't think I feel comfortable enough to try and perform something in front people who might view as sort of freakshow." He clasped his hands as he tried to stop them from shaking, anxiety and panic already setting in. His Spritzee looked over to her owner very worried like. This was not like him, as far as she knew. She was still new. Eventually, his hands stopped shivering and he looked back at Kris. "What about you? Will you be performing? I bet it would make great practice." Kristina Vasiliev

The Wynaut looked around slowly as the Spritzee spoke. <Some sort of celebration…> he mumbled softly. While he had been caught in the wild technically speaking, he was a rather young Pokemon at the end of the day. He had a general idea of what this was supposed to be but didn’t know how or why it existed.
Even without Skye saying those words explicitly, his thought came in loud and clear to Kris. She bit the inside of her mouth and looked forward trying not to pry but finding his thoughts suddenly too loud to ignore. She was lucky not to be an Empath as well or his feelings might have been entirely too much for her to boot. As he spoke, however, Kris nearly stopped walking. Oh— Her gaze drew over him again taking in his shaking hands and general shift in disposition. He really doesn’t… like it… That wasn’t very surprising considering how many of the populace were introverted, but this registered to her as more than that? As a very real and palpable fear?
“I… I might,” she answered reaching back to curl some of her white locks behind her ear. “I do have to focus mostly on the bigger aspects of the contest, but it would be good practice…” She took in a rather sharp breath thereafter and tried to puff up some with the words she was about to say. “And nobody is a freak show! Ok?!” How much she believed her own words was debatable, but at least her tone of voice was pretty sure of itself right then and there.

The spritzee hummed in agreeance, it did indeed looked like a celebration of some sorts. But she had never been anywhere near cities before she wasn't quite sure what kind of things humans celebrated. < I wonder if we get something for coming?> She imagine something like a bow for her to wear? Or even food, food was always good for anything. While his pokemon was busy fantasizing about food Skye was still not feeling too good even as anxiety was leaving him. He could see it was making Kris uncomfortable, well he really couldn't help that at this point. He just needed to calm down some and things would continue as normal. He stopped as she took a deep breath and said those words, 'nobody is a freakshow'. He looked to her for a long time, his mind had been completely void of thought as he studied her. He was looking to see if she was joking or if she really was sincere. Or was she just saying that to say it? Because it seemed like the appropriate thing to say? Like when someone's pokemon dies and condolances were given. What would she know about anything about being stared at like a freakshow? She was pretty, very pretty. If people would look at her they would not wretch away in disgust, backing away from her like if she had some sort of diesease. She would not have parents telling her kids not to look at her, or have them hold their kids tighter. No, and she would certainly not have people she viewed as friends leaving her behind, throwing rocks at her, and screaming in terror when one of the rocks knocked her prothestic off to reveal the horror of her burned and melted face. He released the tension in his shoulders, she wouldn't know anyting of the like. Her life doesn't revolve around wearing something frightening to hide old scars that made her feel ugly or unwanted. But, none of this was her fault and even so she reached out to him. Not many people would, although he wasn't sure if she would stay if she saw his real face. But he would like to imagine that she would indeed stay. He wasn't too keen on letting that happen if he could help it. He prefer if things stayed as they were, this careful and awkaward acquaintanceship that they had. If she only really knew how much he valued that she even texted him at all. How much her even talking to him made him feel. It was nice that there were people who didn't understand but still wanted to be nice. He just nods at her words, he didn't truly believe them but she made him want to believe in them. He stopped at a stall they were just about to pass when he saw something particularly interesting. They were just hairclips, a palish pink in color that were in the shape of stars with glitter embedded in them. "Wow, these are pretty....they kind of remind me of you. Don't you think?" He says nonchalantly, looking at her as he had picked one up to show her, they glittered prettily like the nightsky as he held them up to the light. They were reall well made too, not like cheap ones made of plastic. A rare find in places like this. Kristina Vasiliev

Color was crawling up Kris’s features the longer Skye stared at her. She wasn’t… even sure what she was feeling at that point and having no mental feedback from Skye didn’t help either. She bit her lower lip still fighting to maintain her resolve anyways.
At least… at least until his monologue in its quiet form slowly started to roll out like waves upon her. Her stomach tightened. Some wayward part of Kris wanted to apologize, but Skye didn’t know her strongest power. She’d showed him telekinesis as a reflection that she was indeed ‘special’ as he had claimed, but she was so much more. So much more, and so much still hidden in that regard. Kris would not get Skye’s deeper thoughts, however, how he truly viewed her or otherwise. Instead, she was left feeling bad and struggling to keep up that face that she was self-assured.
As Skye nodded at her words, however, Kris breathed a small sigh of relief. Ease started to return to her, and her gaze escaped from Skye’s finally to travel around the fair again. The Wynaut that had been subjected to this strange stalemate had fallen quiet during it. However, as it seemed to end, he was quick to smile at the Spritzee again. <I hope we get food…> he spoke almost as an afterthought now.
Kris stopped short as Skye spoke, her gaze flickering into the stall right after. Looking down at the hair clips, she blinked slowly feeling heat warm her features as Skye spoke. Her aesthetic, for all it was, was the celestial heavens in her entirety. Her screen name had been KristalComet for Arceus knew how long and…. and yeah. It was also how Kiran thought of her. A small, softer warmth touched Kris’s features and curled into her lips. “They’re so pretty…” she murmured picking up the other one and turning it around in her hand.
The woman behind the table smiled softly at them. “Made them myself, dears,” she commented lightly.
Ohhh? Kris perked a little on hearing that. “Really? They’re so pretty,” she answered only to then be told that all of what was there was hand-made. Looking through each piece with news eyes, Kris felt aglow with a sense of wonder. Things made like this tended to last so long and were so wonderful and… yeah. “How much are these ones?” The estimate turned out to be reasonable even in terms of hand-made type things, and Kris perked up on hearing that. “Really?” Yeah, apparently. The girl giggled a bit and bought two, one for either lock on the side of her face.

Skye watched Kris become enthralled by the star shaped clips, they did indeed match her well. She had this sort of star....galaxy....cosmic theme about her. It was rather obvious from her screenname, but that wasn't his business really. Everyone had their own thing they liked, and everyone had their own style. Skye placed the clip back down and the woman that was running the booth smiled, she spoke about her craft. These accessories were handmade, wow that was really impressive. Every item here here looked like they were made with love and care. Handmade items tended to last very long, unlike the mass produced bretheren. Skye looked over to Kris who seemed to glow with delight, she spoke to the vendor and asked for a price. Incidentally, they were very affordable for something that was made by hand. Kris eagerly paid for the trinkets and placed them in her hair. Skye stepped back to get a better look, they looked very nice on her. It was as if she always had them on, Skye slide his light bag off his back and pulled out his camera from it. "Hey, do you mind if I take a snapshot? It would make for a nice memento ya know?" He waited for an answer, he turned the camera on and started adjusting the settings for the time of day it was. He also wanted to get shots of the observatory so it was probably a good idea to get it set up now before they got there. Kristina Vasiliev
