Jace had been outside watching some of his pokemon enjoy the day when he'd first seen it. He had only caught a brief glimpse but he was entirely certain that what he had seen had been a new type of pokemon, one he'd never encountered before. The most he could determine about it was that it was a bird and that it was white. He'd checked his pokedex for flying types and none of them matched the pokemon he'd seen. The idea that he might find a pokemon no one else had seen before, possibly one native only to Veria, was exciting to him. So he'd gathered up some supplies and his pokemon and headed out to see if he could track down the mysterious bird. He had his Noibat with him, she kept an eye out for danger from the sky while Shiva and Boreas walked alongside him.
It had been heading in the direction of the mountains so that's where he headed as well. He caught another glimpse of it swooping into one of the many cavern entrances. "Guess we're following it in there. Come on Saia, lead the way." Jace had his flashlight with him and pulled it out, trusting Saia to be able to lead the way through the caves using her supersonic hearing to identify paths and tunnels that were safe to travel.

As they navigated the tunnels, Jace couldn't help but imagine what sort of praise he might get if he discovered a never before seen pokemon. People from all over would flock to him for breeding requests in the hopes of getting one of the very first pokemon of the species born in captivity. He'd have to be careful not to over-breed it, of course, and he could charge basically as much as he wanted for a single egg.
Boreas gave a small yip that drew Jace out of his thoughts of fame and fortune and the breeder glanced down at the snowy white Vulpix only to find that he wasn't where he was supposed to be. Normally Boreas walked a little ahead of Jace but he wasn't there. He turned this way and that and finally spotted the Vulpix a short ways behind him, his paws up on the wall of the tunnel as he reached as far as he could toward something that glittered on the wall. Jace moved to see what it was and was surprised to find an Ice Stone. After a bit of prying, he got the evolution stone to come free and tucked it into his bag. Boreas pouted some but Jace wasn't about to just hand the stone over to the Vulpix right then.
A little further on they came to a cavern that was coated in glittering ice crystals and a powdery snow that blew in from an opening high above their heads. The rustle of feathers made Jace turn and perched on one of the icy formations not far away was a snowy white owl with black fleck on it's belly and chest. It took him a second to put the pieces together and he frowned. "It's just a HootHoot." But not an average HootHoot, that much was certain. It wasn't a shiny either. Jace glanced down at Boreas. Was it like the two variations of Vulpix but something native only to Veria? It seemed like a logical explanation. It was still a potentially big discovery if no one knew they existed before now. He wasn't sure of it's typing and had no way of knowing what moved would be effective against it. So he tried the next thing that came to mind. He offered it food. The Hoothoot didn't seem afraid of him at all and willingly flew to his shoulder where it could eat everything he offered to it. "I think we could be great friends. What do you think? Want to come with me?" He questioned, holding up a pokeball. When the Hoothoot didn't seem to be afraid or unwilling to be caught, Jace tapped the ball against it's feathery chest.

With the Hoothoot captured and the mystery of the unknown pokemon solved, Jace considered turning back for home. But his pokemon seemed to be enjoying their time out in the mountains so he decided to keep going. Who knew what else they might encounter, after all. They set out to travel deeper into the tunnels and see what they could find. After a short trek, they came to a new caver, this one larger than the last one and lit by a large opening in the mountain above them. Enough light filled the cavern that some very hardy berry bushes and small trees were growing there. A large Abomasnow was tending the berries and looked up as they entered the cavern. It didn't seem to mind their presence but it also didn't seem overly friendly, watching them warily as they drew nearer to the berry bushes. When Boreas decided he wanted to try and eat one the Abomasnow gave a warning rumble and small flecks of hail began to fall from the sky. They didn't bother the snowy fox but Saia retreated to Jace and tried to hide inside his jacket to avoid the hail.
Boreas bristled at the Abomasnow and looked like he might be ready to try and fight it, except that the fully evolved pokedmon was probably a lot stronger than the young fox. Thinking quickly, Jace released a little Snover alongside Boreas, intending to have her utilize her Grass Whistle attack to calm the larger pokemon and send it to sleep. Immediately the Abomasnow's whole demeanor changed and she beckoned Jace and Lanayru forward as the hail ceased. Saia didn't dare emerge, however, just in case the Abomasnow grew irritable again. The Noibat didn't need to have worried. With Lanayru happily toddling around her feet, the Abomasnow was glad to share her berries with them. The pokemon ate their fill of berries and Jace tucked a few away in his pack for them to eat later. Lanayru didn't seem eager to leave, however, clinging to the Abomasnow's leg like a child might hug their parent or a favorite toy. No one seemed to know what to do with the weeping young Snover until the Abomasnow looked up at Jace and pointed at his bag with one green tipped arm. "My bag? What abou-" He paused mid-word as the answer dawned on him. He withdrew a black and gold ball and held it up. The Abomasnow nodded and Lanayru cheered as Jace gave the ball a little toss and it bounced off of the Abomasnow's chest.

As Jace and his team moved on, Boreas perked up and moved ahead of the group. It was unusual for the fox to behave this way so Jace let him lead. Eventually, Boreas turned down a small side tunnel and followed it until it opened into a cozy little cavern. It was just large enough for Jace to stand in. Some sort of luminous moss grew in clums along the walls and the entire room was covered in a layer of frost. The faint glow of the moss made the whole room glitter like starlight. Boreas wasn't phased by the beauty of the cave as he trotted over to a rock in the corner.
Jace moved to take a step closer and see what the Vulpix had found only to have Boreas turn and fix him with a glare that suggested it was better if he stayed put. Uncertain what was going on, Jace stayed where he was and watched. His curiosity got the best of him, however, and he closed his eyes, focusing on his ability to 'see' the auras of other living things. When he opened them again, he could see the blue and white haze that surrounded Boreas and behind the rock he could make out a second hazy shape. It was about the same size as Boreas and held hints of purple mixed with blue and white. Though he couldn't be entirely certain, he was guessing the second aura belonged to another Vulpix.
Several minutes later, Boreas backed away from the rock and sat a short distance away. And, sure enough, a second Alolan Vulpix poked it's nose out from behind the rock. It shot a wary gaze toward Jace and the creature's aura shimmered with what he could only assume was fear. As it moved again, there was a flash of something Jace was pretty sure he recognized as pain that faded to a dull undertone when the Vulpix was still.
Though it had been some time since he'd used his abilities over aura, Jace knew what he had to do. He knelt to make himself less threatening and focused on expanding his own aura outward in a 'bubble' of calming thoughts. The shiver that continuously ran through the wild Vulpix's aura smoothed and faded and he could watch as it's muscles relaxed, its tense and fearful posture giving way to something more neutral and calm. He couldn't see any injuries on the Vulpix but he closed his eyes and focused on sending healing to the pokemon. Without him needing to do much, his aura found the source of the pain and soothed it enough that the Vulpix wouldn't be bothered by it for a time. The aura shifted toward him and, even with his eyes closed, he watched it drawn nearer until it was pressed against his leg. He reached out a hand and felt a cold nose press against his palm and then fur as the Vulpix rubbed against him. "Will you come with us? We will take care of you and keep you safe." He asked channeling a feeling of acceptance and welcome to the wild creature. It paused but then crawled into his lap and reached it's muzzle up to lick his cheek. "That's a yes then." He told it, opening his eyes and wrapping the Vulpix in a gentle embrace. It snuggled into his arms and was content to stay there.

The Vulpix had dozed off as Jace carried her. She was content and comfortable in his arms and Jace as glad that she felt safe enough with him to be able to sleep. He did wonder if using his aura the way he had was unfair but he'd seen no other alternative and it was clear the poor thing needed help. He wasn't sure what had happened to her but he could guess that humans were partially to blame. It was likely that she'd been hunted by poachers for her rare colored pelt but escaped their traps, ending up injured in the process. He hoped to show her that not all humans were awful and that she didn't have to be afraid of them.
Lost in thought, Jace didnt notice the bird that was following him until,he nearly tripped over it when it dashed in front of him. Only Saia's frantic squeaks stopped him from sending himself and the Vulpix sprawling into the snow. When he looked down, the Delibird was holding up what looked like a potion container at first glance. It was the wrong color, however, and he frowned slightly. The Delibird shook the container and held it out to him again. "A gift for me?" He questioned. The Delibird shook its head and glanced at his bag. "A trade then?" The Delibird nodded enthusiastically. It took a bit of awkward readjusting but Jace finally managed to grab something from his bag: a pokeball. The Delibird dropped the item it was holding and happily pressed its arm-wing against the device, willingly capturing itself.
