Hhhhhhhhhh. How did he get roped into agreeing to this? Orion chewed the inside of his mouth as he walked alongside Marceline and Misora trying to remember again. On reflection, it should have been obvious how inevitable this meeting of sorts would be with Luke’s curiosity and natural need for closure. Whereas Nik could take his words at face value and didn’t seem to really need to meet his boss and whereas Jaz just seemed to be caught up in other things outside of work anyways, Luke….. Luke of course had to be the one to want to make sure he was doing good work.
Ugh, even after having explained this to Marceline and having her agree to it, Orion still felt on edge. Damn consciousness and whatever else was making him feel like this. At the very least he could keep it of the bulk of his features. Calm, easy, controlled, as much as he could stand to be anyways. “Just up ahead is the restaurant,” he mused all the same managing to keep his voice level and smooth. “Luke and Jazz should already be there.”
Luke, meanwhile, tapped his foot as he sat at the table already set up for the group, his cheek resting in one palm. He was vaguely impatient but couldn’t come up with a viable reason as to why. He’d eaten that morning already and cleared his schedule the couple days before for this. Perhaps it was that he was just ready to get on with whatever scrutiny he needed to do and go on to being his normal self again. “Jazz you said you’ve never met his boss before? Or at least directly?” he asked not entirely sure if he was remembering correctly or not.

Having been a little surprised when Orion asked her to enjoy a meal with his...family? Friends? It hadn't been too well explained, but whatever the case, she was oddly eager to take up the offer. For one, the more she helped Orion, and proved he was a normal member of society, the better he served her and the less heat he would gain from those around him, and lowering the risk of exposing her in turn. On another level, the more she knew about those close to him, the more she could use to toy and manipulate him. Already she had stored any small or large facts she had been granted about Luke and Jazz, and had even made an effort to seem like a respectable, yet friendly boss for her little worker, wearing fairly casual clothes, jeans, a jacket, her hair in a ponytail, but still worn smartly as if to say they weren't just friends, given their boss-worker relationship.
"Well I'm certainly excited to see them. Hopefully I can put any worries that have at ease.~" She gave Orion a sweet smile, reaching across to cup Misora's opposing cheek, pulling her over so they walked with their sides touching, kissing the younger girl on the top of her head through her hair. "Hopefully you don't mind Misora joining. It's been a while since I've taken her out for a good meal." In truth she felt if she kept giving Orion too much attention Misora was likely to kill him in his sleep, so this seemed like a good way to build trust between the two.

After Luke brought up wanting to meet Orion's boss, Jazz had wanted to come along too. Besides, she had already been at the lab hounding asking Luke about this new breeding cookie. It was still... a little, ok a lot weird to see him as a girl but regardless, it was still the same Luke. Besides, she wasn't gonna pass up food, especially if someone else was paying for it. Unlike Luke however, Jazz hadn't eaten since...well, that had been her own fault considering she'd gotten lost in a project. Oh well? They'd eat as soon as the others got here anyway but maybe she could convince Luke to at least let them order some appetizers? The question had Jazz shaking her head, "Nah, I've 'eard of 'em and dey helped me tah get 'n apprenticeship 'r somethin 'n Sinclair,"she replied, waving a hand dismissively, "I dun e'en know wut she looks like,"she continued shrugging a bit. Honestly, the thought of meeting Orion's boss was boring but Jazz wasn't going to pass up a chance to hang with Luke, boring or not. Especially when Luke was pretty dang gorgeous as a girl. She kinda missed the Luke she knew however, even if it was nice sitting next to a cutie. "So tell me again how long yer gonna stay liek dat~?"Jazz teased, twirling a lock of Luke's hair as she spoke, " 'n when kin I try one o' dem cookies?"she continued, smirking a bit. It hadn't been the first time Jazz had asked, and it certainly wouldn't be the last. Being a guy just sounded so much better and aside from one minor thing, Jazz honestly couldn't think of a downside. Words: 292 | Notes: ---

Truth be told, Misora was only here because she had nothing better to do and she wanted to spend more time with Marceline. Plus, all things considered, though, she couldn't exactly complain about a free meal. Even if she wasn't some starving urchin wandering the streets and stealing money to make ends meet anymore, she still enjoyed the free meals quite a bit. Aside from the moments where she gets to be alone with Marceline, she probably loved that more than anything else that had come about since the two of them met.
Alas, she cared little about whatever this meeting was going to be about. Something about meeting with an employee or something. To be honest, 98% of it was going in one ear and out the other got her. As far as Marceline's fears were concerned...well, she wouldn't go that far. Maybe. Probably. She'd still be extremely jealous, but she wouldn't actually act on it unless Orion gave her reason to legitimately believe he might actually take Marceline away from her. And while she did get jealous (dangerously so), she knew it'd take a lot for that to happen.
So, she promised to play nice and act like a civil person. If there was one thing she was good at, it was putting on a pretty face and acting like she was actually interested in anything someone had to say. That said, one moment where she didn't put on an act was when Marceline displayed the small bit of affection towards her. She couldn't help but blush lightly, and she had a mildly pouty look on her face; like that of a child saying something to the effect of 'geez I'm not a little kid, mom!'
She did't actually say that, of course. Plus, despite her silent protests, she didn't actually mind it all that much. She was just a little awkward with other people having seen it. Didn't help that Misora may or may not have a mild crush on the older woman. Granted, her feelings were complicated, so it was hard to tell. Even for Misora herself.

Orion’s lips curved up some. If it was one thing he trusted Marceline with, it was to put on an act. Misora, though, he wasn’t too sure on. He’d had few chances to interact with her and none of those in a private setting. There was only so much he could gauge from her quiet demeanor, but her seemingly unflappable trust in and love for Marceline was evident from the beginning. “Of course not~” he chuckled softly. “Sort of a family-friends meeting on both sides that way~” Whether for better or for worse in this case. Ok, brain could you calm down? Apparently not.
Coming up to the restaurant door, Orion pulled it open, holding it for Marceline and Misora before following inside as well.
Luke’s yellow eye flicked sideways taking in Jazz’s profile as she spoke. Don’t even know what they look like but they helped her get work? He supposed it was fair if they had that kind of recourse, but— Ok, well, he knew Orion could be a charmer so it wasn’t actually beyond the scope of imagination to assume he’d done something very specific to get that but… Maybe I’m just nitpicking this… Maybe, probably, yeah. Luke rubbed the side of his face slowly.
“I see,” he answered briefly shifting his legs a little under the table. For all that he was and all that he wasn’t physically now, Luke had become weirdly accustomed to this form in the time that he’d taken it up. Though, he still ‘felt’ like a guy at the end of the day. He supposed gender really wasn’t the correct word for the eventual cookie but… ‘sex cookie’ sounded terrible too. Meh, he’d figure it out once some other testing got done.
Jazz’s question pulled Luke from his thoughts again, and he fidgeted slightly at Jazz messing with his hair. “Hey stop that,” he swatted at her hand. “You wouldn’t want me messing with your hair would you?” He frowned for a moment before rolling his eye at her next comment. “For the last time, Jazz. It’s not a try thing. If you give me a good enough reason to prepare one for you and do some of the work in getting some stuff for me, we’ll see.”
He’d already emphasized this several times and seemed relatively at the end of his rope when it came to being pestered about it. This was hard core, real science that needed a certain practicum and measure to it, and from the way she’d been pestering him, it seemed like Jazz was chalking this up to a game. Ugh. Of course if he had known the seriousness with which she was treating the issue and not having misinterpreted this fact he would have been less frustrated and more ready to help.
Thankfully before much more could be said, the door of the restaurant chimed and caused Luke’s attention to shift over. A brow quirked briefly, but as he saw Orion come in right after, Luke was fairly sure this was indeed his boss and…? A coworker maybe? Standing up from his chair at a full 5’3’’ since having unfortunately shrunk in this form, Luke set his thumbs in the pockets of the beat up blue jeans he’d procured since making the resolution to stay fem for a while.
At a slightly off hour, the restaurant wasn’t too busy, and even looking across the way, Orion was able to catch sight of Luke and Jazz. Luke standing up certainly made it more than obvious as well. He’d make a small head gesture (though whether to Marceline and Misora or Luke and Jazz was questionable) and started over that way. “Marceline, Misora, this is my best friend Luke and my cousin Jazz,” he made a gesture to everyone as their names were spoken. “Luke, Jazz, my boss Marceline her daughter Misora.” Was his voice smooth enough? He hoped.
Luke gave a small nod before extending a hand to Marceline. “Luke Indigo, a pleasure.” As always, his formalities when meeting people seemed to be in place.

Giving a faintly devious smirk as she watched Misora pout, she couldn't help but love her adorable little reactions. The clear sense of a lone wolf still held in her system along with a need to be independant, and yet still, thanks to Marcie being the first person to lend a hand out to her the younger girl couldn't help but have that little spark in her eye that let Marcie knew she was loving the almost motherly attention from her. Maybe when a few years had passed she'd have a real daughter of her own, but for now, Misora was certainly far more useful, far less hassle, and overall, equally as satisfying in her adorable affection for Marcie herself.~
"Well I'll be sure we play the nice happy family for you all. Just be sure not to flinch too much if I bring up any riskier topics. It's always good to remember a firm rule of manipulation. The more comfortable you are with a dangerous topic, the less people can associate your lies with it, okay?~" She had purpose in saying that, fairly strong purpose in fact, but she hoped Orion would take it to heart. Afterall, if she was coming here to assure Orion's little family that he wasn't working for some evil crime boss, it was best to address that outright. A boss wouldn't come with even their best employee to just any old meal anyway, would they?~
Walking into the small resteraunt, Marcie was always glad for a quiet one and bowed her head to Orion as he held open the door, wondering if he was just playing the gentleman, or playing her subordinate. Well, the latter was the easier lie with the basis it had in truth, but she'd tease him about it later, for now simply stating the former with a sly tone. "Such the gentleman Orion.~" With a light giggle she'd make sure she stayed close to Misora and Vice versa, walking with Orion's guidance, faintly surprised to see two women standing at the table, and even more surprised when one was introduced as Luke.
Orion...he'd been using "he" when referring to this "Luke" in the past right? Gender issues perhaps? Nothing too foreign to her, but those she'd interacted with in the past tended to have a far more...male stature to them.Perhaps androgynous in some cases, but Luke was very decidedly feminine...nevertheless, she took it in. He was the preferred pronoun unless Orion had purposely misled her for a prank of some sort.
"Marceline Labelle. The pleasure is mine~" She took Luke's hand with a firm shake, flashing her eyes briefly to Orion as she continued. "This fellow has been such a dilligent worker I've been looking forward to whoever's been keeping him well behaved, I assume your "best friend" status might have something to do with that?~" She let out a faint giggle before finishing. "Its such a shame though, we never get much time to talk at work so he's only mentioned you in passing. Perhaps I'll earn the pleasure of learning more about you over the course of the evening."
As for Jazz, she didn't offer her hand unless Jazz did so first. Not to be rude, she still gave the girl a pleasant smile and in no way looked down her nose at her, she just...didn't seem the type to be too accepting of such a formal gesture. Nevertheless she'd welcome the surprise if Jazz offered her own hand. "And Jazz, another pleasure!~ With how secretive Orion's been about you I'd almost imagine you were his little sister. He suits the protective older brother quite well when the topic comes round to you~" Of course they may not have actually discussed Jazz much, but if Marcie had ever pressed for details, it was easy for her to sense a layer of protection around the girl.
"Of course as Orion's already said, this is my daughter, Misora.~" She gestured to the blonde darling by her side, whispering behind her hand in a teasing manner that said it wasn't in any way a secret. "Before you ask, yes, she's adopted.~" Perhaps that joke didn't need to be made, but the math didn't really work out when a 22 year old had a 16 year old daughter. "My apologies if she's a little quiet this evening, its been a while since we've been to any sort of gathering."

Jazz couldn't help but snicker when Luke swatted her hand away. She enjoyed messing with him sometimes, shrugging when he asked if she would want her hair messed with. Eh, it didn't really matter to her one way or the other. It wasn't like she did much with it anyway so it wouldn't get messed up or anything. Still, his retort about the breeding cookie had her pouting briefly before it seemed it wasn't a definite no. Well then~. Jazz was about to open her mouth to say something else when Orion took that moment to show up. Ugh. Oh well, it wasn't like she'd asked to come to this lunch? meeting? whatever it was. Luke stood up and Jazz looked over to see Orion sure enough only to pale when she saw who was standing next to him. That looked like-....Grandma? No, too young... but, even if she knew the woman before her was Marceline (or at least she assumed as much) her brain refused to believe that someone could look so similar to Grandma without actually being them. How was this possible? As they approached the table, Jazz suddenly couldn't keep her grip on the table and fell backwards with a loud CRASH. "Fuck!"Jazz swore, groaning a little before slowly getting up. Damn that hurt. Well, so much for a good first impression. Yes, thank you brain, you can shut up now. Rubbing her head with one hand, Jazz stood and picked up the chair with the other, grateful at least that hadn't broken. She had gotten paid quite a bit at her last job, but paying for a broken chair wasn't what she had in mind for it. A mumbled apology would be given before Jazz realized that Marceline had said something to her. Huh. Orion had talked about her? Green eyes darted to Orion in question before looking back at Marceline and smirking a bit. "Well, we did grow up t'gether. Guess ya cud say 'e is like a big brother to me. Nice ta meet ya finally,"Jazz replied easily, preferring to stand for now...not to mention she ached from the fall and sitting, while probably preferable, wasn't the first thing that came to mind after falling backwards in her chair. Briefly, Jazz would switch to her native tongue and smirk at Orion, "I can't believe you work for Grandma's clone,"she quipped before remembering to extend her hand to Marceline. Not because she wanted to do it, but rather because Jazz felt obligated to do so after making a fool of herself and well, Luke had done it too. Maybe it was expected? Geez, she felt out of place with how prissy and proper Marcie seemed and was quickly tuning out anything else that was said after. Folding her arms across her chest, Jazz was almost regretting coming to this in the first place. Unlike Marceline or Misora, Jazz hadn't decided to dress up for lunch. Why would she? It wasn't like she needed to impress anyone. Dressed in a pair of black jeans fit with a studded black and silver belt, a silver chain, and a red tank top over a long-sleeve black fishnet shirt that hid her scars from view, it was rather obvious Jazz wasn't trying to impress anyone. The only somewhat 'girly' thing she was wearing were a couple of skull earrings, a black choker necklace, and a chain link dragon earring on one ear that looked eerily similar to Orion's. After thinking it over, Jazz decided to grab the hoody that had been sitting on her chair (probably the reason why she wasn't hurting more) and pulled it on. In hindsight, the hoody was only a little better considering it was one of her older black hoodies that read 'I'm Not Perfect, But I'm Limited Edition'. Ah well, if they didn't like it, she could just leave. There was that option still. Words: 671 Notes: The quip about Marcie being grandma's clone is in Italian Tags: @misora

Although she was still very quiet, Misora still made an effort to at least remain civil. When she was introduced to the others, she gave a quiet nod, and spoke softly. "Pleased to meet you...and thanks for allowing me to come along. I realize this probably wasn't what you expected..." After getting that out, she went back to her usual quiet self. Truth be told she couldn't help but dwell a bit on the fact that Marceline was introducing her as her daughter. It wasn't as though she didn't like it, and it was easier to explain it that way than how they actually met. But still. It was hard not to think back to her real mother, and how drastically different they were.
She'd gotten so used to being treated like garbage by her actual blood relatives that it was hard to believe that someone who wasn't related to her could feel so much more like family than the others. Of course, she didn't give a rats ass about her real parents anymore. In fact, the thought of her parents being miserable and scraping by from one paycheck to the other (as was often the case when she was still living with them) while she got to live in the lap of luxury was quite a splendid one. Was it petty of her to think of them in such a way? Most definitely. But she didn't care one bit. Like before, she was getting the last laugh, and that was all that mattered to her.
As for Jasmine, Misora was, to say the least, less than impressed. Especially when she proceeded to fall backwards in her chair. That said, she wasn't judgmental either. Lord knows she's had more than a few fumbles even after she was taken in by Marceline, and she was all too aware of what was like to feel horribly out of place. It reminded her of her first time meeting Marceline, in fact. Some dirty street urchin sitting in a high-end Italian restaurant would've been impossible for her to imagine had it not actually been happening to her. Either way, these people seemed...okay. If nothing else, none of them had given her any reason to completely despise them. At least, not yet.

Jazz’s sudden fall had Luke and Orion jerking in unison. “Are you ok?” escaped from Luke, but Orion was already closing the distance to help her up. O-oh ok.
Looking back to Marceline, Luke smiled a little weakly. The smooth way in which the woman carried herself, introduced herself, and commented on Orion put an uncomfortable feeling in Luke’s stomach, but what registered was ‘awkward’ rather than ‘suspicious’. He, uh, he knew he wasn’t the only one keeping tabs on Orion but… well… It just… felt… awkward to know? Er? Uh? He- uh- didn’t know what to say and instead sort of nodded after the fact. It didn’t help that— FFFFAHAHAHA.
Orion had been watching Marceline and Luke’s transaction occur with baited breath. Marceline was smooth and warm even if she did prod at him a bit, and that was good but…but? Was it enough? Could Luke senses something being of? It was hard to read that expression on his face as anything but discomfort but discomfort at what? Ugh. He needed to calm down.
Feeling Jazz’s eyes after Marceline mentioned conversation about her, Orion looked sideways and forced a smile. It was fine; he was fine. Jazz’s sudden switch to their native tongue and the statement that came from it, however, had him deadpanning. Of… of all things to say she went with that and …. PFFFFTTTT. Wait. Did Luke just literally laugh? Orion’s eyes flashed back to the redhead, but Luke had recaptured himself before much could be said about the matter. Pffft. Ok, good timing he guessed. Still, he’d elbow Jazz after the fact.
Luke, meanwhile, was smiling a bit too much. Now that Jazz had pointed it out, he did see the resemblance between Marceline and Ms. Carmina. That might have been why he registered ‘awkwardness’ too. But really, Orion? Of all people to work for? No wonder he’d chosen this work, right? Yeah, it Made Sense Now. That was clearly what it was. Right? Right. Quickly after, however, he shifted gears.
“N-nice to meet you both,” Luke nodded from Marceline to Misora as the latter was introduced. While some might have been surprised that such a young woman was taking in a daughter, Luke had grown up hearing stories of his grandparents’ and aunts and uncles who had stranger circumstances. “I’m… I….. ah… glad to uh…” Luke’s features were warming again, and he realized only vaguely that this was Awkward again somehow.
“Ah, maybe we should probably sit and order before continuing the conversation,” Orion smoothed over the transaction as it came. Shifting carefully around Jazz, he pulled a chair for himself but wouldn’t sit down until everyone else did. Luke looked back to him and nodded before looking back to Marceline again and nodding as well. Sitting down again, he’d look over the menu again very briefly.
When the waiter finally came by and took everyone’s orders, Luke finally had time to recenter himself again. “So I have heard what Orion does from him but- is there a specific job title or description he has with you?” he asked Marceline a lot smoother now.

With everyone introducing themselves, Marcie would shake Jazz's hand before quirking a brow as Orion and his friends seemed to chuckle at whatever she had said. Was it a joke about her? She wouldn't mind if it was but she despised not being granted context for moments like this. Afterall her whole life was based around manipulation. Having information infront of her she couldn't understand or use was basically the most annoying thing she could experience. "Laughter at your boss' expense?~ Guess I won't be paying for the meal anymore.~" Of course there was no arrangement for her to pay for Orion, but despite her own playful little quip she'd still make an attempt to pay for everyone at the end of the evening. Its hardly like it would be an issue for her, and she did love to be "generous"~
As everyone took seats she gave a slight nod to confirm that was probably the best idea, pulling out a chair beside her own for Misora and letting her sit down, pushing her in beneath the table before taking her own seat, looking over the menu briefly. Not her usual upper-class dinner, or at least not as high class as she tended to frequent, but something a little more simple was always nice from time to time.
As the waiter came over, Marcie addressed him first as they each gave in whatever their orders were, adding in a tone Orion may have been able to recognize as her "suggestive" skill. "Oh, and would you mind making our table a priority?~ I can assure you there will be a lovely tip if you do.~" Making no effort to lie in that statement, the waiter would likely bring their drinks before even addressing any other table waiting to have their order taken, Marcie's eyes shifting back to Luke and chuckling at her question.
"Minion would be accurate.~" She flashed her eyes to Orion with a cheeky smirk before adding. "You know one of those yellow pill shaped fellows? He's funny, cute, and basically does anything I tell him to do.~" Smiling a bit more genuinely however, she'd continue. "In more seriousness though, he is just my little errand boy. He seemed a little desperate for the work when we first met so I've been giving him whatever tasks need an extra hand. I might assign him more permanently as a ranch hand soon, but for now he's been quite helpful helping wherever he's needed."
She'd flash Orion an almost proud smile, genuinely seeing him as one of her most effective workers afterall, before turning her eyes to Luke and Jazz. "Now, I didn't come here just to talk about work. Why don't you each tell me about yourselves? Orion's been a little stingy on the details. I mean, he talks about you so little Luke I could have sworn he kept referring to you as a guy."

After shaking Marcie's hand, Jazz folded her arms across her chest and gave a nod to Misora. There really wasn't much else to say and this was getting more uncomfortable the longer she stayed like this. At least she had managed to make Luke laugh with the comment about Marcie looking like grandma's clone. Orion's reaction had been pretty great too, but well, then Marcie was talking and Jazz was finding it hard to even pretend she was enjoying any of this. Wait...where had Kovu even gone? The Luxio had been lying in her lap and then... Huh, had he disappeared? Seeing movement out of the corner of her eye, Jazz bent down to see Kovu hiding under the table of all things. Smiling gently, Jazz reached out a hand and scratched the Luxio's ears, " 'ey, c'mon out 'ere. 's alright,"she murmured quietly, trying to coax the shaken cat out. It would take a little time, and the sudden appearance of legs behind him to make him come out but Jazz wasted little time before picking up the Luxio again, murmuring soft, soothing words. By the time she'd managed to get Kovu out from under the table, everyone else aside from Orion was sitting and...ok, awkward. At least with Kovu it was a little easier to deal with this situation, even if Jazz was still reluctant to sit after that nasty fall earlier. Jazz would glance sideways at Orion and sit down, pulling her hood over her head and focusing on petting Kovu rather than the conversation. Orion had already told her a little bit about the job anyway so it wasn't really all that interesting. Marcie's words about making the table a priority earned a brief grimace. Really, even if she was grandma's clone, hearing those words out of someone so similar felt...weird, wrong in a way. At the very least it made Jazz more than aware that Marcie was nothing like grandma which made it a little less awkward but well, ok, hearing Orion described as a Minion did earn a brief chuckle. Though Jazz still couldn't imagine Orion as ever being 'desperate'. Oh well, Orion had changed a lot so maybe? Feeling eyes on her, Jazz looked up to see Marcie was looking at her and Luke now and shifted uncomfortably. Well, there wasn't a question really directed at her so that was a way out. That and Marcie had addressed Luke first anyway so it wasn't that bad. Regardless, " 's cuz 'm nuthin' special," still left Jazz's lips as easily as if they had been talking about the weather. Whether they really didn't want to answer the general question, were too uncomfortable to care, or genuinely believed it, it didn't really matter. Jazz just...well, the only reason they had come was because of free food and well, Luke was here so that helped. Any time spent with him and Orion was usually fun. Usually. Orion exhaled softly and rolled his eyes— both at Jazz and Luke’s humor and Marceline’s response to it. He… didn’t want to explain any of what the ‘joke’ was right then and was a little too happy to move on from it.
Together with the way she addressed the waiter and the way she answered his questions, Luke found himself … not quite off-put by Marceline but? Surprised? Perhaps it was that she looked so much like Ms. Carmie that he had expected her personality to be as much too. This was.. clearly not the case but… huh. A gold eye flicked sideways to Orion briefly. Minion.. That… Wait. Was she just… referencing a movie? Was she… trying to make it a joke? Oh. He was… slow apparently, but that was nothing new when it came to pop culture references.
Orion, meanwhile, snorted softly at the description of himself. If he was one of those yellow Minions then… clearly he was the alpha minion, pft. As Marceline went on, though, everything seemed to fall into place some. Luke nodded a bit at the description, and Jazz seemed to take it so… good. The change in the subject was …. Better and worse in many ways, but Orion already knew he was playing with fire when this was set up so… So. So-so.
Luke rubbed the side of his neck as the conversation was directed at him again. “I am technically a guy,” he explained. “I’m a Pokemon Professor but my research is in Berries, Herbs, and their medical effects on both humans and Pokemon. I was studying how the Gender Cookie for Pokemon work and my research has led to ...discovering it is possible with humans.” He made a small ‘ta-da’ gesture with both hands before smiling a little. For all he was, he was very proud of such a quick accomplishment. “The League is helping me to patent and publish my findings.”
Orion smirked a little more than he should have. Luke had such weird interests and fixations, but it all had such wild applications. As Jazz spoke up thereafter, however, he glanced sideways at her and elbowed her slightly. “Jazz works with machines including helping maintain the Sinclair line..” he emphasized – as if that hadn’t already been more or less brought up before. But… He felt the need to assert that she was special enough there- for obvious reasons.

Marcie noticed the brief glances from the others as she asked their table be focused on, a little curious what had their interest about that. She ran a pretty successful business as far as they knew, was it really that alarming that she was a bit self serving? Well she wouldn't focus on it for long, she was being civil as far as she could tell, and while 'acting' was a large part of why she'd been so successful over the years, she needed at least some of her natural personality to make it believable. Besides could they really complain? The waiter was already bringing back their drinks.
Taking her own, something just faintly alcoholic but moreso fruity given the time of day, she sipped a small straw as Luke explained what was going on with the misinformation. Apparently it was very correct information, but the reason for the confusion had her nearly choking on her straw as she sucked a little too hard, quickly pulling the drink away and covering her mouth politely as she tried to clear her throat.
"I..." She glanced between Orion, Jazz, and Luke, narrowing her eyes and resting her hands on the table. "...This isn't some odd prank is it? I mean...I know those exist but human applications...?" Her skepticism likely fixed quickly by any of the three confirming this was no joke, she seemed legitimately amazed, for once any benefits of this didn't enter her mind, and she was just fully amazed, leaning forward. "My...you must certainly tell me more sometime. I can't even begin to imagine what must have gone into making a human equivalent. To the side effects remain? I noticed the pokemon i breed always seem oddly tired after the shift takes place."
She was drawn a little from her enthrallment at the comment about Jazz, turning her eyes to the girl. Not as impressive, but the inner workings of Sinclair? No matter what area she worked on that was certainly intriguing. "You don't say. I've always wondered how that place ticks. Maybe you can tell me more about what you work on? Is it more engine work or maintaining the moving parts during stops?"
A little surprised to actually find them both so interesting, she found herself enjoying this far more than she expected to. What was maintaining Orions cover was becoming a genuine source of fun and interest for her. "My my Orion, with these two around you I'm surprised you're stuck as my little worker~ No secret skills I've not been told hm? Worried you might have been overqualified perhaps?~"

Even if Jazz was a little disgusted with how forward Marceline was with the waiter, she was relieved that her drink was brought over. It may have surprised the waiter to have a girl ask for something so hard but, well, if she had to deal with this group here, might as well have some liquid courage. Still, the way Marceline reacted upon hearing that Luke was really a guy earned a snicker. A prank? Well, that was one way to think of it. Jazz didn't think she'd go for one quite that elaborate, but it was something to think about for later. As the conversation shifted towards her, Jazz tried to opt out of it but it seemed Orion wasn't going to let her. Grunting a bit at being elbowed, Jazz gave Orion a half-hearted leer before burying her face in Kovu's fur. Why was it so hard to talk about something she enjoyed so much? It was fine with Luke and Orion, they knew her. With Marceline it felt....like she was the ant under a magnifying glass and she didn't like that one bit. The Luxio's purr did help her nerves to settle at least enough to answer the questions posed to her. Arceus, she hated being the center of attention like this. "Both kinda. 'm still 'n apprentice, but it's more of a maintenance thing. Gotta treat 'er right to avoid the engine work, yunno. I invent a few things 'ere 'n there too. Nuthin impressive,"Jazz replied quietly, shrugging her shoulders a bit to play off some of the things she was actually proud of. Like the automatic clothes folder... right, she cannibalized the toaster and a few other things for that... better replace those before anyone notices. The next question earned a more wicked smile from Jazz. Oh, yes, payback time~. " 'rion 's a math wiz. Both 'im 'n auntie taught me most of what I know," Jazz interjected, hoping to reveal something that Marceline might not already know. At the very least, maybe it would embarrass him?

Warmth touched Luke’s features at Marcie’s clear reaction to his explanation. He… still wasn’t used to really having to explain it, and even if it made perfect sense that she’d assume it was a prank … ehhhh…. “It’s not,” he emphasized before Orion even had a chance to say so. The latter zipped his lips and offered a small smile back. “It’s fascinating but real.” As she seemed to assess it as some form of truth, however, he relaxed a bit. A small nod was given at the mention of side effects, but as it seemed Macie was managing more than one conversation at once, Luke slowed a little to accommodate.
Orion, meanwhile, snorted softly after a moment. No, he was not near as skilled in any particular science or engineering or invention that Luke or Jazz was. He was just… some high school drop out. AjasdhaksjdhArceusJazzwhat. A math wiz… A weird, awkward laugh unexpectedly broke from him, and Orion shifted in his seat some. Aware that eyes had shifted onto him, bot Jazz and Luke’s and probably Marcie’s if he bothered to give a sweeping glance, he just… grinned a bit weaker than before. “I do like math, numbers, physics…. But I haven’t put it to practice in a long time…” he mused a bit giving Jazz at least some truth to her cause while downplaying that about as much as he could.
Luke, however, wasn’t about to let it go just as easily. Resting an elbow on the table and taking a sip of his drink, he half smirked a little. “He’s always been good at numbers, any kind of calculation or equation he can figure out pretty easily…” Arceus damn it Luke why were you doing this? Orion’s gaze flashed over to him for a moment, and his features twitched a little uncertainly. Luke grinned toothily for a moment in response before shifting his gaze forward again. “As you can tell we’re all kind of STEM,” he surmised giving Orion a bit of a breather. “What’s your background in?” he asked a bit more precariously.
