Marcie was...faintly dissapointed by the way Jazz reacted to her interest, and not in a way she thought to hide. It was more a concerned worry than any real dissappointment. She'd just said she was nothing special a moment ago and the moment she shows interest its dismissed...which was honestly doubly dissapointing since they did all seem like equally interesting people in their own rights...
As things shifted back to Orion though she was a little surprised. Orion had always acted more as an enforcer for her afterall above everything...she meant it in no serious context, but she couldn't help but give him a sweet smile as she said. "Well maybe I should put you on managing the books sometime.~ Its a lot safer than working with your hands afterall.~" Though the opposite was likely true in the criminal world. You had the books, and you were the most vital member of the operation...and also the first to go if mistakes were made with those books.
"Well you all do seem like little brainboxes...I er...I must say I honestly feel a little out of place." A half truth, in the back of her head a part of her still felt some sense of superiority, but it wasn't something to voice. Resting her hands on her lap she briefly thought about herself, before realizing she didn't have to lie much fairly quickly. "Well I'm...honestly not all that special. My parents actually got me into a few special courses when I was younger but...well nothing really came of it. I did well but none of what I learned really stuck with me. I'd say if anything my only talent is really charisma and...well...one can always be a little overly charismatic." She gave a faintly nervous smile, toying with the rim of her drink.
"Really I'm surprised I got this far myself. If you'd have seen me back in Kalos the best you may have assumed for me is a waitressing job at a nice resteraunt. Most of what got me my little business is...well...Bullshitting I suppose. I know what to do now of course but things were very shaky to start to say the least."

Jazz couldn't help but snicker when it seemed she'd managed to make Orion at least a little bit flustered. Even more so when Luke even joined in on the teasing. Hell ya, that's what you'd call payback. "Bullshit, you've helped me fix calculations on my inventions before, 'rion,"Jazz protested, smirking as she watched Orion presumably squirm. This was more like it, it was a lot easier to be herself when the conversation wasn't focused on her. The fun was short lived however when the conversation turned back to Marceline. Well, this could be interesting, especially if Marceline was into something that was remotely interesting. Instead... Marceline played down her strengths even more than Jazz had. It was... strange honestly, especially coming from such a successful business woman and breeder from what little she'd heard from Orion about his work. "Bullshit,"Jazz blurted out before she realized it. Fuck, why did she even say that. Yes, good job, call out Orion's boss. Great going. Shut up brain. You don't need to rub it in. "You don't get to be a successful business woman just by charisma,"Jazz stuttered, smirking a bit, "Well... unless you decided to sleep your way to the top. Ya don't strike me as that kinda person though. If anything I'd say yer smarter than ya give yerself credit fer." Yeah... that... that last comment probably didn't do anything to help her case. Dammit why couldn't she just keep her mouth shut instead of blurting out the first thing that came to mind. Could she just... disappear? That would be good, yes.

Orion’s lips quirked a little at Marcie’s words, and a brief chuckle did expel from him at that. He wouldn’t say any more on that, however, not in public anyways. Luke, meanwhile, had gone on listening to Marcie and seemed to be taking in her words in stride. The admittance of charisma made sense in the context of a business woman, so he gave a small nod. And … then it felt kind of strange that she was being so modest. Waitress job at a nice restaurant?— Pfffft. Luke’s features twisted up and he found himself glancing sideways at Orion. Oh, he knew very well how far bullshit could go. Feeling Luke’s eye, Orion rolled his own and offered a playful smile back.
….And then both looked at Jazz. Sneakily, the waiter came in right after, slipping in their drinks while they were distracted. Jazz don’t get me in trouble… Orion mentally groaned. Luke, meanwhile, was more curious than anything. What had? What? Jazz’s explanation, however, had Luke cringing. Oh. Orion physically face/palmed. The sound was enough to have Luke glancing sideways at him. He frowned a little awkwardly and then looked from Marcie to Jazz and then back again.
"Jazz, that was rude," Orion finally stated looking up after the fact and glaring just a little.

With the exclamation of bullshit the table seemed to go quiet, and while stunned Marcie was more curious than offended, looking over to the girl on the other side of the table, quirking a brow curiously and wondering what on earth had caused her to say that, but as she explained herself, and the silence seemed to continue...Marcie could only Laugh. Despite Orion trying to "tell her off" Marcie could only take it with an odd sense of pride. Maybe she didn't sleep around but by god the cheek to even say that out loud!~ Maybe she said Marcie wasn't the type but...god she couldn't stop giggling at the absurdity of saying that out loud. "Well as much as I'd love to say otherwise I'm afraid it's true!~ Bullshit was my business for a fair while, and though I didn't quite 'sleep around', I do have my little...lets say secret technique~ I'd say more but it's a secret for a reason. Suffice to say, I'd easily say I'm the least talented person at this table, unless you call tricking rich snobs into buying overpriced eggs a talent.~"Marcie was being oddly genuine, any fake-ness her normal act could have possibly given away was vaporized as she spoke a little more honestly. Even if it was only a front and a laundering scheme for her real work, a lot of Marcie's success came from the start up money she had for the company, her ability to 'convince' people into shitty deals, and the majority of the 'work' fell on those beneath her. So long as she kept them stocked on equipment, her silver tongue was all she needed. Jazz Johnson

Fuck. Arceus, why did she have to go and say that. Even Jazz's attempt to salvage the slip up only made things worse. And then she was back to being the ant under the magnifying glass again. Thankfully the waiter brought their drinks and Jazz downed the Long Island Ice Tea in pretty much one go. Damn that stung but it helped, a lot more. Even after Orion glared at her and Jazz felt herself sinking further into her chair. Now if the waiter would come back she could order something harder... hopefully. Please, please, please come back. And then Marceline started laughing. Thoroughly embarrassed, Jazz hugged Kovu close to her chest and pulled her hood down over her head as far as it would go. Was it too much to ask to disappear now? Could she just leave? There wasn't any reason to stay was there? Marceline's words helped a little. At least she didn't seem too insulted, that was good, right. Still, it didn't help enough that Jazz stopped trying to find a way to escape. A muffled squeak of an apology would be all that Jazz could come up with before burying her head in Kovu's fur. As if she wasn't uncomfortable enough, this was a disaster. There would be no redemption from this and just. Dammit. The Luxio was very concerned about Jazz's reaction and tried licking his trainer's face, doing his best to be soothing. Whatever happened, he was blaming Orion which was clear from the rather pointed glare Kovu gave him before going back to trying to calm Jazz.

Marcie’s laughter made Orion uncomfortable. He couldn’t quite tell if she was taking it personally and therefore covering up the insult or whether it was legitimately funny to her and therefore could afford to be shrugged off. Luke, meanwhile, found himself starting to mumble something and falling off. As Marcie spoke, however, both seemed to relax a little. Orion understood what that technique of sorts was, and Luke could guess something reasonably legitimate if somewhat underhanded business wise.
Jazz’s muffled squeak, however, had Luke frowning and shifting a hand under the table to pat her leg briefly. Orion reached up and rubbed the side of his face before forcing something of a smile. “Let’s just give her a masters in economics and go on~” he joked very briefly before taking a sip of his drink. A small sort of uncertain half-laugh escaped from Luke as well. Being in close proximity Jazz was making him consciously aware of what she was feeling and that just… was not helping much for anything.
Thankfully right after the waiter came around again and stated the food was coming soon. As if on some unknown cue right after, another waiter came up and started distributing plates and the like. That was.. very quick now wasn’t it? Orion smirked a bit to himself knowing what had been done to ensure this. Luke was more or less just glad for something of a distraction now. Once the food was distributed, however, Orion took a bite and found himself rather surprised at how good it was. Normally this place was about middle of the road, and yet maybe perhaps Marcie’s influence had even affected the chef? Nah, heh.

Marcie's faint chuckles eased down as she realized what effect Jazz's slip up had had on herself, feeling faintly guilty about bringing that out of her, or just not having the skill to make her feel that she'd not actually said anything wrong...but at the same time there was just a twinge of...perhaps 'spite' was too malicious, but it was a close sensation, enjoying how after calling Bullshit on her, Jazz was the one left in an awkward situation. Of course she wouldn't voice her shaudenfreude, unlike Jazz, she had class.~
As their plates arrived she was quickly distracted, thanking the waiter and asking he send a thanks to the chef in turn simply for supplying the meal so quickly. Taking up her cutlery she found the meal quite tasty, though not the best she'd had.She briefly thought she had used her influence on the chef before recalling she hadn't been within 10 feet of the man most likely, or woman, as the case may be. Seemed the food just happened to be good, maybe she'd come here again if she fancied something a little less expensive.
"How's everyone enjoying their meals?~"

Jazz couldn't see anything past Kovu's fur, but she was painfully aware of what was being said. She could feel a hand pat her leg and glanced up at Luke long enough to see that it had been him. Still, Jazz couldn't even bring herself to smile at him or even try to reassure him she was fine. She wasn't, and pretending to be fine now would just be a lie. Why did she agree to go to this? As soon as the waiter came, Jazz quickly got his attention and asked for something stronger. No, she didn't have a preference, just something. Whatever he recommended. Then the food was brought to the table and Jazz was more than grateful to have something else to focus on. Relaxing a little, Jazz set the plate she'd ordered for Kovu down on the ground and let the Luxio go. It felt...weird not having him on her lap anymore, and Jazz wasn't entirely sure she liked it but the food was pretty good at least. " 's good,"Jazz murmured, not looking up at anyone still. Then the waiter brought her the drink she'd ordered and she sighed in relief before taking a sip. Better, much, much better. They didn't call it liquid courage for nothing, huh.

Luke squinted a bit when Jazz ordered more alcohol but wasn’t about to say something there. Later, he would bring it up and possibly chew out Orion for it as well. Right then, however, he focused a bit more on eating since he was, in fact, hungry. Practically anything might have tasted good at that point, but he did appreciate the flavor and whatever else went into the food prep. At Marcie’s question, he gave a small nod in agreement with Jazz. “It’s not bad at all.”
Orion ate a little slower than everyone else, his eyes occasionally raising and reflecting over those at the table before dropping again. He felt vaguely bad for Jazz and vaguely bad in general, but here they were so he couldn’t do much now. “It is good, Caravella has some wonderful historical food~” he hummed after a moment eyeing Luke. “I assume yours came out right~ Boss?” he asked with a bit of a small smirk attached. With one eye, Luke didn’t catch Orion’s features though his brow did quirk a bit at the tone. Hmmm, well, whatever right? He’d gotten the answers he’d been looking for, mostly, and he was able to assess things for himself which was the most important.

The brief request of the waiter brought a raised eyebrow from Marcie, had she really embaressed Jazz that bad? Now she really did feel guilty...with a slow breath she returned to her own food as the waiter returned with the harder drink, poking at her plate for a moment until the other two members of the table grabbed her attention, smiling at them softly and dipping her head. "I'll remember to give my compliments to the chef on the way out." Enjoying her plate a little more as she put on a smile, she got about halfway through and took the drink she'd forgotten to sip yet, raising it in a mock toast as she held a faintly chipper tone to get the table's attention.
"Honestly, Jazz, Luke, it's been a pleasure meeting you both." She lifted her glass to state the next part was the toast. "To Orion, for being an ex-con who couldn't find any other job~" She shot him a light wink to make sure that came across more as a playful jab than anything else.

Jazz saw Luke's reaction to her ordering more alcohol but frankly, she didn't really care right then. She just wanted to forget what a fuck up she was and get through this dinner. That meant just focusing on the food and not really saying anything else. There was no way she was going to live this down though, not anytime soon at any rate. At least it didn't feel like she was under a magnifying glass anymore, so that was something. Whatever the case, Marceline seemed alright, even if Jazz was still very much feeling out of place in this dinner. As the conversation shifted and Marceline raised her glass for a toast, Jazz stopped eating long enough to raise her glass and awkwardly join the toast. She didn't really like Marceline calling Orion that and squinted a bit but bit her tongue before saying anything that would get her in even more trouble. Orion's better than that. Or at least he was in Jazz's opinion. So what if he had screwed up or went to jail, that didn't mean he couldn't find any-... O-oh, right. It had been a joke. Calm down, brain. Easier said than done. Ain't that the truth. Picking at her meal, Jazz found that it was harder to eat somehow. Stupid anxiety. Yeah, that had to be it, right. It certainly wasn't the alcohol she'd downed before the meal even got there. "Don't say that about him..."Jazz muttered, staring down at her food, still picking at it as if it would give her answers. It was questionable whether anyone heard her, but who cared anyway. She was already in deep shit with everyone, might as well make it worse.

PFFFFFT HAHAHAHAH. Orion physically snorted at Marceline’s toast and probably would have spit his drink had he been sipping it at the time. That was… that was so true in ways that perpetrated only between him and Marceline. Smirking a bit harder, he set one hand on his chest and threw the other out briefly palm up. “Thank you, thank you, it’s an honor,” he spoke so … so affluently someone might have assumed he was some kind of celebrity for a moment.
Luke, meanwhile, had raised his eyebrow a little as well up until Orion did that. PFFFFT. “To Orion,” he toasted back a bit drier and more sardonically. Orion shot him a wide grin, and Luke rolled his eye only to smile a bit thereafter. Neither one actually heard Jazz’s words over their own commotion. Neither one really took it seriously.
Grabbing his glass, Orion held it upwards. “To the lovely Marceline who believes in strange second chances~” he mused smoothly enough thereafter. Luke’s eyebrow raised entirely too high but he gave the smallest hand-arm gesture back.
